2016-2017 School Year Welcome Letter

Dear Students, Parents, Guardians, Community Members, and Staff:

While the start of school is still a couple of weeks away, our administrators and support staff are busy preparing for Tuesday, September 6th, the first and best day of the 2016-2017 school year.  

Over the last year our school district made many changes, encountered some challenges, and yes, faced some controversy. While we may not all agree on every issue, I am confident that the passion and discourse is based in a genuine shared desire to do what is best for our kids.  While we continue to strive to be a premier school district where every child is prepared to succeed in an ever-changing world,  we have many, many opportunities to work together to support our students and ensure equal access to all.  I am committed to work with each of you to achieve that goal.

Last spring our school district celebrated success with 11 athletic and activities state championships.  This level of achievement represents a school district record and acknowledges the collective efforts of our community.  Success at this high level is not accomplished overnight.  Our whole community contributes to the development, growth and success of these champions.  Jackson Hole High School also continues statewide success being recognized as the #1 high school in the state as measured by ACT scores and Advanced Placement.  

This year we welcome several new faces to the school district, offering new opportunities for inquiry into the climate and needs of the school district. This is an exciting time to meet new teachers and staff and learn what they each bring to your student’s education.  Be sure to visit the School District web site ( for a listing of all TCSD teachers, administrators and support staff at each school.  Coming soon you will notice a new look to the TCSD website.  We are excited to have an up to date, user friendly school district website.  We hope this will become a “go to” resource for your school district information needs.

This year the Board of Trustees made a few adjustments to the school calendar.  School starts Tuesday, September 6th,day after Labor Day and ends on Friday, June 16, 2017.  In addition to school closures for holidays and school vacations, there are no school/teacher in-service days on September 23, October 14, October 28, January 27, and February 17 for students grades K-12.  For kindergarten through 8th grade students, the district will partner with community organizations to provide full day in-school enrichment opportunities for families who choose to send their child to school on the optional days of October 14, January 27, and February 17th.  Details about these offerings will be available during school Open House events and future communications.  

While we recognize that back to school is a busy time for families, we encourage you to take a few extra minutes to review all the materials sent home with your student in the first days.  In those materials is important information from your child’s teacher, school principal, and the school district.  In addition to the materials sent home on those first days of the year, each of our schools provide an Open House a day or two prior to the start of school. This is a great way for your child to see his/her classroom, meet the teacher and new classmates. Please visit to find out the date and time of your child’s Open House.

Our transportation department will be sending important information about your child’s school bus assignment including bus number and pick up and drop off times.  If you do not receive this mailing by August 31st, please contact the Transportation Department at 307.733.4943.  

Be sure to look for the annual Free and Reduced Meal Application. To be eligible for free or reduced breakfast and lunch a new application is required every school year and can be filled out at any time throughout the year if your income decreases. Once you qualify for Free or Reduced meals you qualify for the remainder of the school year, even if your income increases.  This is a terrific resource for families who qualify, based on income.  I encourage you to complete the application and take advantage of this program if your family qualifies.  

As we work to be a premier school district and the schools of choice in Teton County, please know that I am very interested in your input and feedback. I will be seeking both formal and informal information from you.  Started during the 2015-2016 School Year, we will continue offering Community Chats this upcoming year.  Sessions will be offered at various times and locations to accommodate the different schedules of our families.  As these sessions are scheduled, more information will be provided.
