Moran School Newsletter, September 2016
Thursday, September 1st, 2016
Dear Families,

We are so excited for the start of this school year. Our teachers have been working so hard to prepare for our students and creating purposeful learning opportunities in our classrooms. Our school is filled with student learning, teacher and student smiles and caring conversations. I am so fortunate to be part of our school community.

The National PTA (NPTA) recommendations about homework are based on the work by researcher Harris Cooper. His work suggests that students in 1st grade have about 10-20 minutes of homework per night, and 10 minutes per grade level there after. Most studies on elementary school homework show it has no significant impact on student achievement. In fact, some studies suggest there is a negative impact. For this first trimester we are giving students only reading homework. The teachers and I will be reviewing this topic after the first trimester and make a decision for the following trimester. If you are interested in enrichment activities or tasks that builds upon what is learned in class, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher.

We are so pleased to offer bus transportation from Moran to Jackson to support our students in accessing afterschool activities. If your student will be traveling to town after school, please contact the bus barn and fill out their activity bus registration form. Once you have completed this process, they will issue your student a Zonar card. The Zonar card allows students to scan when they load the bus and when they arrive to their destination. If after school plans happen to change, please contact your student’s classroom teacher before 2 PM.
The bus barn direct number is 733-4943.
