Moran School Vision: Moran Elementary School is a small community of learners who work hard to Accept differences Be Responsible, and Challenge ourselves.

Thanks to all parents for attending conferences last week! Conferences are an important opportunity for parents and teachers to communicate about and discuss academic progress. We typically have 100% attendance at conferences, and appreciate your commitment to strengthening the school-home connection!

PAWS Testing for 3rd – 5th graders
Our 4th and 5th grade students will be PAWS testing every day next week. PAWS is Wyoming’s test to assess a student’s proficiency on the learning standards in reading, math, and science (4th grade only) and we feel the students are well prepared and ready to take it! Results are typically ready in late summer, so expect to receive your child’s PAWS scores early in the school year.

Your child’s specific PAWS schedule will be sent in classroom teachers’ newsletters. We appreciate your support at home by ensuring a good night’s rest and a nutritious breakfast! For more information on PAWS, visit
Also, the attached Home-School Connection newsletter has helpful test-taking tips.

Social-Emotional Learning
One aspect of a strong foundation for student success in both behavior and academics is a social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum. At Moran School, Second Step, a research-based SEL curriculum, is taught to all students by Nial Overbay, our school counselor.

Second Step focuses on emotions management, empathy, problem solving, and skills for learning. It is proven that students who learn the types of social and emotional skills taught in Second Step have improved academic achievement. Another benefit of Second Step is the common language all students and staff at Moran School utilize when solving problems, expressing emotions, and showing empathy. For more information, visit

Parent-Teacher Organization
We are looking for any interested parents in continuing the work Dave McIlwraith did in establishing the Moran School PTO. The framework of the organization is developed thanks to Dave! If you are interested, contact me or let one of the teachers know.
