Planes de la Clase y Vocabulario

Each week I will update this page with lesson plans and vocabulary so you know what your child is learning and can practice at home. We will continue using a curriculum called "Descubre el español con Santillana" (Level A)that we started in 1st grade, which aligns with Common Core and the new Wyoming State Standards for Spanish.

Semana 1: (9/19-9/22) Welcome and Procedures plus review of last year's vocab We will practice greetings, clothes, colors, family, parts of the house, etc.

Semana 2: (9/26-9/30) review of last year's vocabWe will practice greetings, clothes, colors, family, parts of the house, etc.

Semana 3: (10/3-10/7) Intro to unit 4 about animals (location: España)

Today we will see pictures and videos of Spain (including cities, languages, running of the bulls, la tomatina, el flamenco, arte y arquitectura)

Semana 4: (10/10-10/13) Unit 4.1

Learn about animal sounds in Spanish with this song!

Semana 5: (10/17-10/21) Continue practice with pets and their body parts. Describe them by answering questions such as ¿Qué es esto? (What is this), ¿Dónde está _(la cola)_? Where is __(the tail)__.

¿Cuántas __(patas)__ tiene? How many __(legs/paws)__does it have? 

Semana 6: (10/24-10/28- End of first Trimester) Review previous adjective learned in Kinder to describe animals and learn some new ones

Semana 7: (10/31-11/4) This week we are imagining that we are on vacation in spain with our imaginary pets.... but at the hotel someone left the door open and their pet escaped. In order to find their pet they will have to create "Missing" (Se Busca) posters that describe exactlly what their pet looks like, so that the locals will be able to help them find it.  

We will also have a brief intro to Mexican Holiday "Día de los Muertos" (Day of the Dead)

Semana 8: (11//7-11/10 No School Friday)  Today they will have time to finish their posters and then When finished with their poster they will do a self-assessment based on a rubric that they made as a class. They must identify how many starts their poster should get (1-4), state why- with support from rubric, and what they can do to improve it. 

Semana 9: (11/14-11/218) plus (11/21-11/22) ¡Feliz Día de Acción de Gracias! This week we will do a peer-assessment of our posters, then, with the feedback from their self-assessment, teacher feedback and peer feedback they should attempt to improve their poster. When students are done with their posters they will discover that their pet was picked up by an animal catacher and taken to the Refugio de Animales  (Animal Shelter). However, someone did find their poster and is going to see if they can find their pet! If the person who finds their missing pet poster can identify which animal at the shelter belongs to them then they will be rewarded and reunited with their pet!

Semana 10: (11/28-12/2)  Unit 4.2 Los Animales de la Granja  Farm Animals  Learn the names of farm animals and the sounds they make with these songs! Mi tío tiene una granja

Semana 11: (12/5-12/9We will continue practicing naming and describing farm animals by playing a game of "Veo, veo______" (I spy) . We will also read a book and do some other activites to help us practice

Semana 12: (12/12-12/16) Today we will have a competition of who can design the craziest animal! Each student should choose 3-5 different body parts from different animals and combine them into something crazy! They should write a description of what body parts come from what animal and name it by combining letters from the animals they used. Each student will present their invented animal to the class.

Semana 13:  (12/19-12/23) ¡Feliz Navidad! Today we will start by voting which animal is the craziest! 

Next, we will review 4.1-4.2 vocabulary and use the Nearpod app on the iPads to assess their learningl If time permits we will also be introduced to the vocab under week 14!

(1/4-1/6) Short week ¡Feliz Día de los Reyes!  Practice with numbers, counting to 100.

Semana 14: (1/9-1/13Intro to Unit 4.3- How animals move including how to make verbs match plural subjects

Semana 16: (1/23-1/28 No School FridayIntro to México and Descubre A Unit 5.2 La comida! We will learn a couple basic foods, including the history of chocolate as well as how to say which ones we like and don't like.

Semana 17: (1/30-2/3) Continued practicing saying which foods we do and don't like, adding the below expressions. We also interviewed a friend, asking them what foods they like using the above list.

Semana 18: (2/6-2/10End of second Trimester We will do an Interpretive listening quiz using Nearpod and we will read the book "Dragones y Tacos" which will be followed up by a taco party.

Semana 19: (2/13-2/16-No School Friday

This week we will be learning about how birthday parties in Mexico are different from birthday parties in the United States

Semana 20: (2/21-2/24-No School Monday) Students will plan their own imaginary birthday parties in which they must decide what foods they want to eat and what activities they want to do. Next, they will make a shopping list of what we need to buy for our parties. We will also learn what kind of money they use in Mexico (pesos) and learn to ask and say how much something costs.

Semana 21: (2/27-3/2) This week students will go to the "market" with their shopping list to find out how much everthing on their list costs. Next they will practice their math skills by adding all the prices up to find out their total balance. We will end class with a card game that helps us practice asking and saying how much something costs.

Semana 22: (3/6-3/10) This week students will be assessed on whether or not they can ask and say how much something costs in a pretend market scenario.

Semana 23: (3/13-3/17)  Students will do a presentation in which they will invite their classmates to their party.

Semana 24: (3/20-3/24) Students will experience a Mexican fiesta!

Semana 25: (4/10-4/14) This week we will start a new unit about the Fair (la Feria) with the goal of being able to talk about the time and location of community event and practice asking simple questions by inviting friend to attend certain events with us. We will start by learning the names of different events in spanish and compare our preferences with a friend. We will also observe how fairs may be different in other countries.

Semana 26: (4/17-4/21)  Review Feria vocab, watch videos of fair events in Mexico to compare with here, Interview a partner and compare which events you like using a Venn Diagram

Semana 27: (4/24-4/28 Intro to Scheduling. Today we will learn the days of the week

Semana 28: (5/1-5/5) Months of the year. Practice saying in Spanish what day different fair events are happening on. Ex: El rodeo es el sábado 30 de julio. The rodeo is on Saturday, July 30th.

Semana 29: (5/8-5/12) Intro to telling time to the hour.

¿A qué hora? At what time?  

A las _:__ de la ______ (mañana/tarde/noche)  At _:__ am/pm

Ex: A las 7:00 de la noche. At 7:00 pm.

Semana 30: (5/15-5/19) Extend telling time to the half hour.  A las 5:30 (cinco y media). At 5:30 (five thirty)Practice how we would invite a friend to the fair. Plus a listening assessment to determine is students will understand if told what day and what time and event is taking place.

Semana 31: (5/22-5/26)   Review plus students will show they can say when something is happening at by choosing 3 events they like and then presenting to the class, telling when each of those events is taking place. They will prepare by first writing what they will say.

Semana 32: (5/30-6/2) No School Monday Today is the last day of the unit. Students will show they have reached their goal by making a video of themself inviting a friend to an event at the fair. They will also show they can respond appropriately when invited to an event at the fair. Some possible questions or information they might want to include are:  

1. ¿Te gusta _(el evento) ?    Do you like the _(event) ? 

2. ¿Quieres ir al _(evento)  conmigo?   Do you want to go to _(event) ? with me?  

3. ¿Cuándo? When? or ¿Qué día? What day?  ¿A qué hora?  At what time?
