About the Jackson Elementary School

Library Media Center

Sharing books with a child is a wonderful way to support early reading skills. Thank you for your support and assistance.  We look forward to sharing our love of books and reading with all students this year.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the librarian, Allie Gillen (agillen@tcsd.org).

Library Procedures

Each class will be assigned a scheduled library time (one visit per week) to come to the library for book selection and instruction through literature, technology, and information literacy.

Borrowing Books

Please encourage your child to share library books with you.  Read together – even “reading” the pictures is thinking and reading!

Students may borrow books from the library for one week.  The books should be returned or renewed when the students attend their scheduled library class.

If a book is in high demand, it may only be renewed one time.

Book Care

Throughout the year, students will be learning how to select and use library materials.  We will be discussing responsible use of library materials and correct treatment of books.  In order to make borrowing books from the library an enjoyable experience for both of you, you can help your child in the following ways:

  • Find a special place to keep library books so they do not get lost or damaged.
  • Protect library books from food, pets, younger brothers and sisters, and the weather.
  • Let the librarian repair damaged or torn pages in a library book.  Please do not attempt to repair them at home.  We have special supplies for this!
  • Return library books on time.  Books are checked out and returned during our weekly library classes.  Please check with your child’s classroom teacher if you are not sure which day this is and mark the library day on a calendar.

Overdues

While there are no fines for overdue books at the Jackson Elementary School Library, we request that books be returned (or renewed if you need more time) in one week’s time.  Your child must return his/her library book before another book can be checked out.

Damaged or Lost Books

Please follow our Book Care Guidelines to keep books safe!  If an item is lost or damaged beyond repair, replacement cost for the item will be charged.
